Activities

Galloway is known for its stunning natural landscapes and wildlife. Brigton sits within Galloway Forest Park, which covers over 300 square miles and is designated as a Dark Sky Park, offering incredible stargazing opportunities. Our region is rich in history, from ancient monuments to coastal castles, and home to a thriving arts scene, including the Wigtown Book Festival and the Spring Fling. Whether it’s nature, adventure, culture or history you’re looking for, Galloway has something for everyone.

Cycling & Sports

Brigton is less than five miles from Loch Trool, one of the 7Stanes sites ideal for gravel riders. Our region is home to some of the best gravel trails in the world, with riders travelling to Galloway every year for the Raiders and Gralloch events. If you prefer getting in the water, there’s plenty of opportunities for wild swimming, or you can take a trip to the Ayrshire coast to experience the South Ayrshire Snorkel Trail. We even get kayakers on the Minnoch, so there’s plenty to get involved with!

With the Southern Upland Way, Southern Scotland’s cross-country footpath, running past the farm, Brigton is ideal for walkers. Following the path along the Minnoch to Loch Trool is a nice way to spend an afternoon, or you can climb the Merrick, the highest peak in the south of Scotland. For bird-spotters and wildlife fans, RSPB Wood of Cree is just a short walk from the property, and nature reserves including NTS Threave are just a short drive away.

Castles & Coasts

If you’re looking to explore some of Scotland’s finest castles and country houses, Brigton is the ideal base. Culzean Castle, Dumfries House, Cardoness Castle and Drumlanrig Castle are some of the highlights in the region, and all within driving distance of the farm. We’re also lucky enough to have some stunning beaches here in South West Scotland, including Girvan beach with views out to Ailsa Craig, the seaside town of Portpatrick and Isle of Whithorn, home to St. Ninian’s Chapel.

Arts & Culture

Dumfries and Galloway is home to a lively arts scene. The Wigtown Book Festival attracts top authors from across the world to Scotland’s book town, and the Spring Fling is an opportunity to visit the studios of some of the craftspeople across the county. Film fans will enjoy spotting some of the locations from The Wicker Man too, and the Newton Stewart Cinema, where it was screened to the locals before release, is a great spot to enjoy the latest releases.
